Starters are the most fascinating portions of food that few can resist. Seldom does one come across diners that skip starters, considering it as an optional course of meal. The majority find the dining experience incomplete without the munch and crunch of starters. They set the tone of fun and excitement when portions of it are tantalizingly laid out in small bone china decorative plates, fresh from the grill or frying pan, and served with a sizzling sound and aromatic scent, instantly soothing the hunger pangs.
The role of starters in a three course meal is to prepare your taste buds for the main course. Gastronomy classifies starters as appetizers that are coordinated with the flavors of the main dish in a meal, because appetizers are the first food diners experience, it gives them an idea, and prepares them for the main course that will follow.
As a Pan-Asian and European eatery, our menu carries some of the most exotic starters that are meticulously planned and served. The authentic cooking traditions and flavors of China, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesian, and India are included in the Pan-Asian fare. In the European segment, its predominantly Italian, with Mexican and American starters too added into the segment. Italy and cheese are inseparable, and origins of starters from that country cannot be imagined without it.
Unique Pan-Asian & European Starters
No matter which traditions or cultures starters originate from, the core constituents are similar, meaning they are all made out of meat, seafood, poultry, fruit, vegetables and shell fish, and served as hot or cold. The only difference is the ingredients that are unique to the culinary traditions of the country they originate from. So for example, if you take the case of ‘Panko Fried Chicken With Wasabi Mayo’, a Japanese specialty, which is included in our menu, the ‘Pan’ in Japanese means bread, and ‘ko’ is flour. The Panko is made from white bread sans the crust. The bread is processed into flakes and dried. The chicken is dipped into the Panko before it is fried, it not only absorbs less oil, it also gives a crispy and crunchy texture to the chicken.
Similarly, Dimsum, another popular Chinese specialty in our Pan Asian Menu. We have a variety of them, ‘Spicy Chicken & Celery Dimsum’, ‘Purple Chicken Dimsum’, ‘Prawn Dimsum’, and ‘Vegetarian Dimsum’, with fillings of either mushroom or corn. This Cantonese style Chinese starter which is steamed, baked, or fried and prepared in small bite-sized portions is unique to the Chinese style of cooking, with soya sauce added to both the veg and non veg fillings that are stir fried. The process of making Dimsum is tedious and complex, the skills of the chef are put to test. They need to be hand crafted patiently and precisely, this labor intensive starter is handled by a small group, each handling specific tasks of filling and wrapping them into dumplings, and either steaming or deep frying them. The labor is Indian, the cooking style absolutely Chinese.
